Oso Mudslide Relief Efforts and Donation Drives

Oso Mudslide Relief Efforts and Donation Drives

Our thoughts are with the victims of the tragic mudslide in Oso county. This emergency has been covered in the news, but we want to put the spotlight on the businesses who are donating a part of their profits, collecting supplies, donations, putting on events and holding auctions for the benefit of Oso county victims and rescue workers. If you know of a relief effort, donation drive or event that is not in this list, please send us an email through the contact form, and we will add them.

It is our hope that by providing this list, people and businesses alike will be able to pool their resources to help make a bigger difference against this tragedy.

Card Drop Offs:

Heart to Heart Charity

One way to help? Write letters or cards. Currently there are five people injured by the Oso landslide that remain in a Seattle hospital. A 22-week-old boy remains in critical condition in intensive care and is improving. His 25-year-old mother is in satisfactory condition. A 37-year-old man and a 58-year-old man are both listed in satisfactory condition. A 81-year-old man is listed as serious and improving in intensive care.

If you want to send a note it is greatly appreciated. We will be sending in notes/letters for anyone that wants to submit. Letters can be dropped off at our office at 720 Puget Ave Suite B in Sedro Woolley in our donation bin behind the partition in the hall.

KIDS CLUB members. This would be a wonderful way for you to all help out. Drawing some pictures would bring a lot of cheer. Thanks!

The Glacier Peak Blue Boys 6th Grade team that is participating in this weekend’s Tulip Basketball Tournament (March 28th-30th) has taken on the task of helping those impacted by the devastating Oso mudslide this past weekend. They are planning to do a donation bucket at their games this weekend, but have expanded their request to also do a non-perishable food drive after learning that Food Banks near the mudslide have run out of food (in Arlington, Darrington and Oso). Skagit County Parks & Recreation would like to get behind this request by including ALL gym locations in the Food Drive!

For the Tulip Tourney this weekend if you’d like to DROP OFF a non-perishable food item at ANY of the gym entrances the Skagit County Parks & Recreation staff will collect the items and coordinate w/ the Glacier Peak Blue Boys 6th Grade team for them to p/u Sunday and deliver to the Oso area Food Banks. This is an easy way for us all to make an impact to help out. There is no effort too small.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to those impacted by the tragedy of the Oso landslide. The Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce is collecting disaster relief donations for the landslide victims and volunteers. We are accepting any non-refrigerated food items, toiletries, clothing, blankets, gas cards, duct tape, garbage bags, bath towels and checks and money orders made out to the American Red Cross.

Your contributions can be brought to the Mount Vernon Chamber office located at 301 W Kincaid St Mount Vernon, WA 98273 Monday – Friday between 8:30am and 5pm, Saturday & Sunday 10am-2pm. We will bring them to the distribution site in Arlington at the end of each week. Every little bit helps to support these individuals in this time of need. Thank you for your support. For more information, contact us at info@mountvernonchamber.com or (360) 428-8547.

Goods Nursery and Produce

Molly Fay here from Goods Nursery and Produce. My heart is heavy the last couple days as I watch the stories coming out of my hometown, Arlington, WA. This grave destruction really hits home and I am doing as much as possible to show my support. So many people have asked where they can donate, and I am giving them an option. I have set-up an online donation page, where all funds will go directly to the victims. I am working with the IGA in Darrington, as well as the Haggen in Arlington, to provide $100 gift cards to those families in need. This will give people an immediate option to get the supplies they need, like food and diapers. As of 7PM tonight, March 25th, we have raised $1900.00. Please pass this along to those that may also be looking for a place to donate. We will also take donations at Goods!
